The condensation of chromosomes is completed in the Prophase. During the middle prophase, the chromosomes shorten and thicken to get their characteristic shape and size. In the late Prophase, after the condensatation, the chromosomes are reduced about 1/25 of their size in early prophase and each chromosome appears to consists of two sister chromatids joined at the centromere.
