TATA box present at the promoter region of a gene correctly positions RNA polymerase II during transcription of mRNA. TATA box is a sequence containing six nucleotides "TATAAT" present in the core promoter region 25-35 base pairs before the transcription start site of genes in eukaryotes. The sequence is the binding site of the TATA-binding protein (TBP) and pre-initiation complex before the starting of transcription by RNA Polymerase.
