The macrophage-like phagocytic cell present in the kidney is called Mesangial cells. Mesangial cells are located in the glomerular capillaries of the renal corpuscle in the kidney. They are derived from smooth muscles and phagocytize components of the glomerular basal lamina. Apart from phagocytic functions, they also provide structural support to the glomerular capillaries and regulate glomerular filtration.
