Phylum is the second-highest taxonomic rank in the classification of organisms. The rank phylum is present below the kingdom and above the class.
The term phylum is derived from the Greek word “phylon” which means race. The term phylum was given by German biologist Ernst Heinrich Philipp August Haeckel (Ernst Haeckel) (1834-1919).
