During intense exercise, anaerobic respiration takes place due to the deficiency of oxygen and glucose converted to lactic acid. This lactic acid generated in muscle cells is then transported to the liver, where it’s converted back to pyruvate and then glucose. This glucose is then returned to the muscles. This biochemical cycle is called Cori cycle or the Lactic Acid Cycle.
